Analysis of irrigation in endodontics

J.R. Jiménez-Octavio J.M. Asensio-Gil

October 2018 - December 2018

Funding entity Clínica Gaizka Loroño - Endodoncia Exclusiva

The overall objective of this collaboration focuses on the analysis of the irrigation flow generated by different needles inside the root canals after an endodoncy. The endodontic treatment includes, among its main phases, the irrigation of the pulp canals of teeth infected with sodium hypochlorite in low concentration to clean-up bacteria and other detritus inside such canals.

The goal of the analysis will be to evaluate velocities, pressures and shear stresses that for each type of anatomy, position and type of needle are obtained inside the root canals during the irrigation process. Thus, conclusions can be drawn about the combinations that could be more effective in the treatment or, on the contrary, greater risk of extrusion by hypochlorite in the apical zone.
